Ring of Brodgar (2024)
Gemstone, acrylic & emulsion on engraved wood.
The Ring of Brodgar felt intimidating, and I had to get special permission to enter as it was closed. As I walked barefoot on the damp moss, my feet sinking into the earth, I felt nervous—perhaps due to the anticipation of reaching the final circle of my journey. It felt like the culmination of everything, and I was expecting some great revelation. But instead, I had a sudden realization: all the seriousness I had carried with me on this journey was unnecessary. The humour and lightness of the moment broke through, and I laughed uncontrollably. It was as though I was seeing myself for the first time, realizing that everything was already enough. The magic is always around us. As I left, a barn owl flew alongside my car, and I knew that the journey had come full circle. At the start and end of my journey, a particular beetle appeared—symbolizing rebirth, transformation, and the cyclical nature of life.
